Special Interest Holidays Consultancy offers gratis advice to discerning travellers who are interested in Botswana Safaris. We specialise in Botswana but also work with various tour operators who offer other African Safaris. We have associates who can assist worldwide and the consultancy also works with the camps in Botswana on environmental issues.
Special Interest Holidays International is based just outside Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta, we keep up to date in this segment of the market by regular visits to the various camps there. We also own a small non-commercial safari camp on the Boteti River so are very familiar with operational matters concerning these establishments.
We focus in bespoke safaris in Southern Africa including Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Zambia. We also offer split safari and island holidays transporting you from the wilds of the bush to the tranquillity of the beaches of Zanzibar or the Seychelles.
Botswana is a former British Protectorate and the most economically, socially and politically stable country in Africa. We are safari specialists in the Okavango Delta, Chobe and the Northern Kalahari. These areas offer some of the most varied African safari opportunities ever created.
The Okavango Delta is undoubtedly the most outstanding area for a safari in the world. Its diversity is so concentrated that in just one day you can experience flood plains, forests, papyrus swamps and permanent wetlands with their lagoons and rivers. This results in a whole range of animals and birds. You can see all the big cats; lions, cheetahs and leopards and other predators; hyena, wild dogs and Jackals. The big five can all be found here. Elephants, giraffe and zebra abound and there are many species of antelope; kudu, sitatunga, sable, impala and springbok to name just a few. And, it is an ornithologist’s dream with over 560 recorded species many of which are endemic.
In complete contrast you can visit the vast desert areas and the salt pans which many people find spiritually uplifting. These enormous areas seem alien to most people who are used to cities and towns. Here you can watch the antics of the meerkats. The pans are also the breeding grounds for zebra, wildebeest and springbok and the migratory herds can be enormous. At this time the young attract predators such as lions and wild dogs.
Discover and photograph the game and bird life from the comfort of a game vehicle, with highly trained and experienced guides, often with restricted numbers in the vehicle and in private reserves where only a limited number of guests are allowed at a time. Explore the channels and lagoons of the delta from a motor boat or get really close to nature in a mokoro (canoe) drifting between the lilies. The more energetic visitor may go walking and learn to track or discover the smaller inhabitants of the bush. You will also learn about the plants and their practical, nutritional or medicinal uses.
We can organise your programme to include a visit to the spectacular Victoria Falls. After all the excitement in the bush we can arrange for you to wind down for a week under a palm tree lying on a white sandy beach by the clear blue seas of Zanzibar or in the Seychelles.
