Xakanaxa, Okavango Delta

Xakanaxa is at the northern end of the Moremi Game Reserve on the eastern side of Chief’s island. There is access by air to the Xakanaxa airstrip (20 mins from Maun) or by boat from other camps in the area. It is also possible to drive there from Maun (4 hrs).

The lodge area consists of a thatched dining room and lounge/bar area. It is all on raised wooden decking and under the shade of towering trees. The furniture is traditional and comfortable with deep leather sofas. The intimate ‘camp’ feel is augmented by the lighting which is mostly provided by candles and paraffin lamps.

There is an ‘infinity’ plunge pool by a shady area with loungers and a small gazebo which is frequently used for intimate dinners. Behind is a large new swimming pool.

There are twelve luxury meru style tents all situated along the water’s edge with large wooden platforms which are comfortably furnished. The tents have fans inside and an ingenious water evaporation cooling system on the outside. There are either two large single beds or an enormous double. The en-suite bathroom is covered but open-air. There is a very efficient shower, a washbasin and toilet. Throughout the tent are stylish wooden chests, tables and other furnishings.

The camp is fully inclusive including game drives, motor boat and mokoro activities.
